Nestled on a gentle hill along Laguna Beach’s scenic North Coast Highway, Miki Sushi & Sake offers an extraordinary dining experience that artfully blends traditional Japanese techniques with bold, inventive fusion flavors. This sushi restaurant is much more than a typical sushi joint—it's a culinary playground where freshness meets creativity in every bite.
Upon arrival, guests are welcomed by warm, friendly staff who set the tone for an inviting and relaxed atmosphere. Whether you choose a cozy roadside table with a distant view of the beach and sunset, as noted by longtime diner Sten Sun, or a more intimate indoor seat, the experience feels comfortably authentic yet refreshingly modern.
The menu is a treasure trove of extraordinary dishes that marry impeccable ingredients with thoughtful flavor combinations. Signature offerings such as the Sexy Hand Roll, the vibrant Laguna Canyon Roll, and the indulgent Bush & Pond Roll showcase the chef’s talent for balancing textures and tastes—from the creamy avocado and crispy fried potato noodles to the spicy tuna and mild mustard greens wrapped in soy bean sheets. Seafood lovers will delight in the pristine sashimi like the Salmon Sashimi, Pepper Tuna, and the inventive Fusion Sashimi options: the Crystal Power, with its zesty lemon and yuzu sauce, and the Rainbow Clouds carpaccio, bursting with complex layers of scallop, sweet shrimp, and an ensemble of eight distinct sauces.
For those who savor a touch of tradition alongside innovation, Miki Sushi & Sake's sake selection is reasonably priced and thoughtfully curated, pairing beautifully with delicate bites of Albacore or a comforting bowl of Miso Soup. Beer aficionados might find the draft offerings a bit on the pricier side, but that doesn’t detract from the overall experience.
Don’t skip dessert—trust the servers like Cassie Keigan did when they recommended the Frozen Cream Brûlée. It’s a luscious finale that offers a cool, creamy contrast to the meal’s savory highlights. The playful addition of Kulfi, a creamy Indian-inspired frozen custard, adds an unexpected yet delightful twist to the sweet menu.
Customers consistently rave about Miki Sushi & Sake’s vibrant flavors and fresh, high-quality fish. Kristina Levin’s enthusiasm for dishes like shishito peppers, scallop beet truffle nigiri, and the inventive M45 roll is echoed by many returning patrons who appreciate the meticulous care poured into every sauce and ingredient pairing. The intimate setting, paired with attentive service, makes it ideal for special dinners or a memorable night out, though reservations are advised due to its cozy size.
Ultimately, Miki Sushi & Sake is a must-visit culinary destination in Laguna Beach for those seeking sushi that pushes boundaries without losing the soul of the cuisine. With a harmonious fusion of flavors, stunning coastal views, and a welcoming vibe, it captures the very essence of a memorable seaside sushi experience.
Located a little hill, so we enjoyed both the beach and sunset on the distance sit on a roadside table. The food is mostly fusion Japanese cuisine, not authentic, but it’s really good on itself. The peculiar things is that a bottle of Sake was reasonably price, but the price of draft beer was rather expensive. All the staff were kind and friendly, I’m willing to visit again if I come back this beach.
Loved the unique flavors and combinations here!! And super fresh fish. Will definitely be back to try more of their menu. Shishito peppers, scallop beet truffle nigiri, M45, and lava flow were all delicious!
Best sushi!!! Friend recommended Cafe Fusion Sushi. It’s not “traditional” sushi place. Their rolls are super unique and delicious. They really put a lot of though into their sauces and taste pairing. We ordered almost one of everything. My favorite was the Laguna Canyon Roll. So freaking good. Service was great. Our server was super friendly and recommended the creme brûlée for dessert, which was so good. Thank you for delicious food and great service. Highly recommend this spot for a unique sushi experience. Will be back!
Wonderful creations with high quality fish and freshest ingredients. Definitely try the whole hole. A local hot spot. Extensive wine (for sushi restaurant) and sake menu. You won't be disappointed. Small place, not for big groups. Recommend reservations.
Great sushi and really friendly staff! The sushi has a unique twist to it.
What a beautiful reopening! Chef Miki’s spirit shines through in every detail. Re-experiencing the menu was a delight— the tomato miso soup, Vitamin C salad, Sexy Truffle, and Moon & Sun were all amazing, but the Yuzu Pep Pep and Eel Truffle Nigiri were truly out of this world! Thank you, Chris and the entire team, for honoring Chef Miki’s legacy and making this reopening possible.
